Welcome to Legacy!
Thank you for participating in a Legacy Volleyball Club program. Creating a safe, positive experience while reinforcing fundamental skills is our top priority at Legacy Youth Sports. To support this goal, we have outlined the expectations and guidelines below for athletes and parents.
Player Expectations
- Play for the love of the game.
- Bring a positive, enthusiastic, and coachable attitude to every practice and competition.
- Put the team ahead of yourself.
- Take responsibility for your own actions.
- Respect and follow the rules of the game.
- Win graciously and lose gracefully.
- Treat teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators with respect and encouragement — disrespectful behavior toward others will not be tolerated.
- Maintain a teachable spirit that allows you to work collaboratively with your coach to improve, even when you don’t agree with or fully understand a decision made by a coach or official.
- Adopt a growth mindset that treats mistakes and failure as opportunities to learn.
- Make every effort to attend all scheduled practices and games, and notify your coach in advance if you are unable to attend. Understand that missed practices may affect playing time.
- Arrive on time and prepared to train, in appropriate attire.
- Understand that all athletes will have the opportunity to participate, but playing time will not be equal among all players.
- Conduct yourself in a way that supports the team’s goals and complies with the standards set by Legacy.
Respectful Training Environment
At Legacy, the respectful treatment of everyone we interact with — teammates, coaches, officials, parents, and opposing players — is our top priority. Disrespectful behavior, bullying, and racism will not be tolerated, as they are harmful, disrupt training, and undermine team dynamics. Incidents should be reported to the team coach, who will notify the program director; Legacy leadership may investigate further at its discretion. Athletes found in violation of this policy will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the program.
Participation & Commitment
Athletes are expected to attend all practices and competitions and to follow the standards and team rules set by their coach and by Legacy. Absences or failure to meet these standards may result in reduced playing time or participation. Above all, we ask every athlete to bring their best attitude and effort to practices and tournaments, demonstrate strong sportsmanship, and treat coaches, teammates, opponents, spectators, and officials with respect.
We understand and support athletes who participate in multiple sports, but we expect a strong commitment to our program. Being a dual-sport athlete requires careful time management; please make every effort not to miss team activities, practices, or games. Missed time can affect the team’s rhythm, preparation, and overall success — we rely on every player’s presence and consistency to help the team reach its full potential.
Playing Time & Player Development
Legacy is committed to the growth and development of every athlete. Practices provide significant opportunities to build and refine skills, and all players will have opportunities to showcase their abilities during tournament play. Playing time is based on a combination of factors, including court position, skill execution, attitude, effort, attendance, punctuality, coachability, body language, and work ethic.
Parent Expectations
- Be positive, respectful, appropriate, and encouraging toward coaches, teammates, other parents, opponents, and officials.
- Accept the judgment of officials and coaches, and remain in control at all times.
- Accept the outcome of each game without excuses.
- Refrain from coaching from the sidelines.
- Attend as many games as possible.
- Prioritize your child’s emotional well-being above any personal goals, agendas, or competitive drive, and avoid projecting your own feelings onto your child.
- Keep team goals in mind while watching games.
- Show grace toward athletes who make mistakes while giving their best effort.
- Respect the distinction between the parent role and the coaching role, allowing your child to be coached by their coach and to be part of the team.
- Help your child learn the right lessons from winning, losing, and both individual accomplishments and mistakes.
- Be a good listener when your child shares their thoughts and experiences.
- Be prompt for both drop-off and pick-up when transporting your player.
- Review the Parent Code of Conduct.
Parent Support at Tournaments
As a reflection of your child, your team, and Legacy Youth Sports, parents are held to the same high standard as coaches and athletes at tournaments. The Parent Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for Legacy parents; above all, respectful treatment of players, coaches, officials, and other spectators is required. Parents should remain positive and supportive at all times, cheering for and encouraging the team without coaching or instructing from the sidelines. Disrespectful behavior or incidents of racism will not be tolerated at tournaments, and offending parties may be asked to leave. Please do not approach your coach during a tournament to discuss strategy, playing time, or any other matter related to your child’s role or participation on the team.
Facilities
LVC teams train and compete at multiple facilities. Coaches will share specific guidelines for your team’s practice court. If parents remain at practice, we ask that they wait outside the gym unless instructed otherwise by a coach.
Weather & Cancellations
If practice is canceled due to weather, your coach or the club will contact you, and/or an announcement will be posted on our website by 2:00 p.m. that day. If you travel a long distance to practice, or if conditions in your area are hazardous, you have the right as a parent or guardian to keep your family home and safe.
Transportation Policy
Transportation to practices and tournaments is the responsibility of parents; please be prompt for both drop-off and pick-up. For insurance and liability reasons, the club cannot assume responsibility for transportation.
Communication Process
The athlete is included at every stage of this process to ensure their perspective is heard and to help build personal responsibility and conflict-resolution skills.
- Speak with your child first to fully understand their perspective and determine whether the concern is yours or your child’s.
- Review the applicable LVC policies and procedures.
- If a concern remains, follow the steps below. (If Step 1 resolves the issue, the remaining steps are not necessary.)
Step 1: Instruct your child to raise the concern directly with their coach.
Step 2: You and your child meet with the coach together.
Step 3: You and your child meet with the coach and the Program Director.
Electronic Communication & Social Media Policy (TAPP)
All electronic communication between coaches, athletes, and parents — including email, app messages, text messages, and social media — must be Transparent, Appropriate, Professional, and Productive (TAPP). Coaches, athletes, and parents are expected to follow common-sense, age-appropriate guidelines regarding the content, volume, and timing of any electronic communication with athletes.
